March 29, 2008 was the most exciting day I’ve had in a long time! My mom and I left at 6:30am to get in line for our ellen standby tickets at Universal Studios. I’ve been waiting a long time to go now and tried for 2 weeks to be caller 11 to win tickets, but I was not caller 11, nor 1-10. Our tickets for sure did not come with a guaranteed show ticket. Upon arriving at Universal we figured we would be sitting behind the toll booth operator waiting for them to open, but as soon as we arrived, shut off the car, the line started moving. At 7:15 we were held up at security bag check for a few minutes until they opened that line. The place was buzzing with people as there was some kind of huge wresting thing going on and the first 200 people there were able to do a meet and greet with the wrestling TV stars. It was fairly easy to distinguish who was an ellen fan and who was there for wresting . We fast walked to get to where we needed to get in line.

When we arrived we were number 20. Pretty good huh! This was now at 7:30am and check in did not start until 11:30 & show time was at 1:30. Based on our timing, the spot in line there was a wonderful bench there. Other people behind us dragged a table and chairs, so we had a comfy spot to sit and chatted with our new friends who we would get to know over the next 4 hours. Went and picked up some cinnamon rolls while my mom held our spot. We saw people walking by with blue tickets and red ones. Massive amounts of blue ones but only a few red ones. Must be contest winners or something. When our line finally started moving they handed the first few people in line a Red ticket marked VIP guest! Whoo hoo. Pays to be there so early. Didn’t even need to suffer, we had a nice chair to rest on and shade over our head with the big awning. We saw this room where tons of people were packed into suffering and then they said red ticket holders over here where they had plush leather sofas and nice table and chairs to sit on and free ice cold water. They took us out in group numbers. We were tickets 177 and 178, so we went 4th. I saw tickets higher than 403. They ushered us down this long roped off path walking by everybody that didn’t have a ticket that was longing to have one. That’s how I felt yesterday. We finally made it into the secure area. No more stretching over a fence far away, we were IN!

They put us in a great center seat where we could easily see ellen on stage. The show was fantastic. There was a marshmallow eating contest, only this time they replaced marshmallows with oranges. Our player for our side was too short to reach the ropes. The crowd cheered for a winner. Ellen said she would announce the winner later. At the end of the show ellen was about ready to close out and she said, oh, your all getting Annual Membership passes to Universal Studios!!!!! Wooo HoOOO the crowd went crazy. Awesome gift. They shot off cannons of confetti and blue and silver confetti flew everywhere!! It was rockin. The crowd went wild. The first two shows she didn’t give anything big away. We got a picture of the girls we sat by who got Stryker, Ellen’s DJ, to come take a picture with him. We also got some pics of me down by the stage. Disposable film. We filled out our form and they will turn them in and we will get our Universal passes in the mail. What a great time was had.

Next year I’m going to start checking the website every day to wait for the announcement of ellen at Universal Studios tickets so I can hopefully get real tickets and not standby ones. Although, the standby experience was half the fun. Oh, when the seats got full they had to start putting some standby on the lawn grass. That’s where we thought we would be so we brought cushions. When it came time to handing out the Annual Pass forms, those people were asked to leave. Bummer for them, that could have been me. : ( It pays to get my butt up out of bed! After the show we went into Universal Studios to watch the Mardi Gras parade. I thought Ellen might be on one of the floats, but we did not see her. Maybe she was in costume again. Great day!

Ellen DeGeneres Show

Today, March 28, 2008 I took the day off work to go to a live taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show at the Universal Studios Resort on Universal CityWalk®! I had a BIG time! For sure a blast! The 12 noon show Flo Rida performed his hit song Low. 3pm the Jonas Brothers performed. Tomorrow I have standby tickets to actually get into the show. Kelly Picker is singing. Today I was lucky enough to find a really great place to stand for a couple hours before the show that had a pretty great view. I could see ellen on the stage and could also see the big TV screens for close up. I was very tired after standing that long getting pushed by the crowd, but it was worth it. There were thousands of people there. I knew there would be when I had to park in the ET lot, near the last row end of the aisle as that is probably the furtherest away I could probably get. The shows air Mon, Tue Wed of next week, so look for me! The crowd had a lot of energy and it was a fun place to people watch! One lady got horribly angry at me for hogging the 1 inch wide opening in the fencing where you could see ellen after the show was over. Her poor exit was bombarded with fans everywhere around the vehicle. That has to be fun for her though as the energy and excitement is quite high.

Video from Ellen’s Website already... Ellen is in Orlando, and we captured her behind the scenes of her taping, goofing around on a water taxi on the way to her show! Be sure to catch Ellen in front of the cameras (the real cameras that cost a lot of money and are operated by professionals) starting on Monday! See you then.

Episode airs Monday, March 31 ELLEN AT THE POOL (From ellen's website) "I've been waiting all year and now I'm finally returning to Orlando! We're gonna turn Universal Studios in Orlando upside down! The poor vacationers enjoying the Royal Pacific Resort pool will never be the same after I show up, start a water balloon fight and convince them to perform synchronized swimming and compete in games of musical Hawaii chairs! (Let's hope nobody gets electrocuted.) And let's hope that everybody forgets to put sunblock on their necks, because the world's #1 redneck, JEFF FOXWORTHY will be stopping by to tell us about his fantastic new children's book, "Dirt on My Shirt." And, our favorite Houstonians, CHESTER PITTS and EPHRAIM SALAAM are back to ride and review all the roller coasters in the park. (They rode 'em all day long and didn't get sick once!) Plus, all of Orlando will be singing "Low, low, low" when FLO RIDA stops by to sing his #1 hit (for a record ten weeks in a row)! Flo will also perform a new song from his equally fantastic upcoming CD, "Mail on Sunday!""

Episode airs Tuesday, April 1 JONAS BROTHERS (From ellen's website) "Imagine you're on vacation, relaxing at Universal Studios in Orlando. Now imagine that you go to a fortune teller to hear your future and she starts telling you some ridiculous fortune. Now imagine how you react when you find out that the fortune teller turns out to be me! It's day 2 in Orlando, and I see The JONAS BROTHERS in our immediate future! Yes, there's gonna be pandemonium in the park when America's hottest young band stops by to frolic in the sun! Plus, they'll sing their teen-swooning hits, "When You Look Me in the Eyes" and "S.O.S." from their super platinum CD, "Jonas Brothers"! Since things will already be cooking, why not have PAULA DEEN and her sons JAMIE and BOBBY DEEN cook up some good ol' southern brunch recipes from Jamie and Bobby's mouth watering new cook book, "Y'all Come Eat"? I can't wait to meet Paula's sons and I can't think of a better way to spend my time down south than to eat some good ol' down home treats! "

Episode airs Wednesday, April 2 ELLEN AT THE SPA (From ellen's website) "Wednesday, I think I'll head over to the spa and perform some outrageous facials on some unsuspecting guests. You'll be laughing so hard at these poor victims -- I'll bet your faces will end up hurting just as much as theirs do! On my final day in Orlando, I plan on really stirring things up, so look out! I know that you're gonna get stirred up when we meet the latest American Idol to be eliminated. The super positive and soulful CHIKEZIE will stop by and talk about his experience and to sing so well, Simon will be kicking himself for being so mean! Plus, one of my favorite guests, JENNY MCCARTHY will be on hand to make me laugh really hard and to talk about the second season of her online comedy series, "In the Motherhood." Then we pull out all the stops (I don't know who pushed them all in) when former American Idol and current superstar, KELLIE PICKLER stops by to bring some more sunshine to the Sunshine State when she performs her hit, "Red High Heels", from her debut CD, "Small Town Girl.""
